Diesel do nicely…

Apologies for the terrible pun style headline, but it just had to be done and our usual pun-meister Scotty was off doing some last minute Christmas shopping today.

Earlier this month we announced our plans for a Class 20 pack for RailWorks & Rail Simulator, with models spanning their years of operation from the 1950’s to current day, and featuring disc headcodes, headcode (domino) box, and modern refitted variants with cluster lights.

The locos, refered to as ‘Choppers’ by those in the know, are being modelled based on research carried out on real Class 20’s, and will feature fully modelled cabs, sounds, and detailing, along with several authentic liveries, making this a must-have addition to a diesel fan’s collection.

Sweet FNA!

As a few eagle-eyed readers noticed from our In Development page how we mentioned this was a “Class 20 pack”, and there will be more than just a loco - the first item that makes up part of our pack is the FNA Nuclear Flask wagon, as seen being hauled by Class 20’s around various parts of the country on their way to and from nuclear power stations.

Sixty of these wagons were built, and they are dedicated to carrying their radioactive cargo of spent nuclear fuel in safety from powerstations, so as the fuel can be reprocessed for later use.

Each FNA holds one flask, which typically carries up to 2.5 tonnes of spent fuel, and their strength was demonstrated in 1984 when a locomotive was intentionally crashed in to a “derailed” wagon on a test track at Old Dalby.

Take a look at the Class 20 ‘In Development’ page on the Just Trains website for further details and screenshots of this exciting add-on which will be released in 2010, and keep an eye on this blog for further news of our Class 20 pack in the new year - don’t forget you can subscribe to the RSS feed to be notified as soon as new posts go live!
