Welcome to the Tuesday Dev blog!
Well where do I start? How about Traffic X?
Traffic X
This is still being worked on apace and is still set for mid-end of July release barring any problems. There has been some discussion of Helicopter operation in Traffic in our public forum and we are giving it some thought. The problem is that FS does not actually support/have AI helis and to make some (not the models, the way they operate) we have had to fudge and cheat to get some kind of heli operations, trouble is that unless you make a very short dedicated runway which make s them take off near-vertically they hover taxi and take off on the normal runway, which is not actually very realistic. Now with tens of thousands of airports in FS for us to add these very short dedicated runways to every airfield is basically out of the question so we are considering removing the helis totally that way that issue is sorted. I am not sure if there is a quick and easy way to be able to turn On/Off the helis from all of the flightplans – at the moment we don’t have that and not sure we can easily do that.
Real Scenery White Waltham and Denham airfields.
Our second release in this range is now available. It is White Waltham. This busy airfield is just to the west of London Heathrow airport and has a long history – it’s quite a big airfield and all the runways are grass. Fairey Aviation used to have their factory there and the famous but ill-fated Rotordyne was built and flown from here – some say at night sometimes you can still hear the ghostly hiss of its rotor blade tip jets running! Whilst we were carrying out our research at the airfield we came across several large ornate metal columns lying on the ground to the west of the field near the fireworks factory (bet you never knew it had a fireworks factory there!). We suspect, but can’t confirm that they were part of the Fairey Factory. We have included these in the scenery though! I have added some new pictures of White Waltham to its product page.
Free demos!
Great price AND try before you fly!
Good news is that there is a special very-low introductory price for White Waltham of ONLY £3.99! Amazing value and you can now also download a fully working version of the airfield (60MB demo, Requires FSX) to try before you buy – a limitation is that there are several large ‘Just Flight Demo’ banners scattered around various locations.
Mosquito.
I have added some more new pictures and info to the In Development page for Mossie and this week I have featured some of the many variants that will be available for Mosquito. More pics to come next week as well. Mosquito should be available by download in around 3 weeks or so.
Tiger Moth.
The FSX SP2 compatibility update is with Richard now to package up and test the results. If all goes well this may be available at the end of this week or the beginning of next.
More dev news next week.
‘till then.
Keep safe.
Scotty.
