Making waves with a Rail Simulator add-on

The Just Trains crew made their way to Birmingham not just once but twice late last year, for a simulation show at the Thinktank in the city centre, and the wet and windy National Exhibition Centre for the UK’s biggest model railway show. If you’re interested about their show, take a look at the Warley MRC website.

Our forthcoming Bristol to Exeter route for Rail Simulator was revealled to the public for the first time, and the reaction from people at both shows was hugely positive, with developer Tom Williams from Railwaves on hand to answer questions and demonstrate a section of the line through Bridgwater station, and members of the Rail Simulator development team (as mentioned in Scotty’s blog post) showing other aspects of the simulator.

Railwaves have painstakingly researched the route to ensure they are able to bring the real world to Rail Simulator, complete with highly detailed stations and key buildings along the length of the route - and as seen in the video below, even at this early stage it’s all looking very lifelike.

Since showing the route in Birmingham we’ve had a number of questions about the add-on, and we’re planning on running a developer interview as a forthcoming blog post to try and answer a number of them. If you’ve got a question about the add-on, why not post it in the comments below?

When is it due out?

Will you be able to extend this route in the future, either from Exeter westwards, or from Bristol eastwards? Westward to include the coastal stretches around Dawlish would be a sure fire winner!

Hi, thank you for the comments - we do respond to questions on the blog, although unfortunately there’s not much I can add beyond the info already given, as no release date has been set for the route yet and we’re hoping that it’ll be released sometime during 2008.
