A look at our third volume of VFR Real Scenery

One product which has generated a huge amount of interest from Flight Simmers over the past year has been our VFR Real Scenery series, and the development of Volume 3 (Wales and South West England) is undergoing testing ahead of the expected release in August.

We thought you’d like to see some screenshots showing off this stunning scenery, offering an amazing level of detail and clarity which really does make Flight Simulator X look “as real as it gets!”

VFR Real Scenery - Snowdon

VFR Real Scenery is made from the very latest aerial photographic images, supplied to us by our data provider Infoterra Ltd,  and features hand crafted landable water and night lighting effects.

The inclusion of 10m mesh means that the contours of the hills and valleys are much more defined than the default scenery, and really brings to life the ridges across the top of mountains and reveals every crevice on the stunning mountain sides.

No matter if you are flying over a town or tearing through the valleys it’s a breathtaking experience…

Wow!

If it really is as good as volume 2 you’ll be getting my order!

Cheers,

Joe

Ooh now there’s lovely!

I can almost see Llewellyn “White Eagle of The North” standing atop Cadre Idris in all his majesty, the last true Prince of Wales…..

…and now if I want to go up there .. why it saves all the walking look you!!

Seriously the shots look stunning and I am homesick just looking at them…. A definite must have

I trust hope the box has some Welsh on the cover.. and maybe in the manual?

Are the screenshots official or are they Leeks
( geddit ?) :-)

what we need now is some 3D scenery additions…

Cardiff Arms Park and likenesses of Barry John, Gareth Edwards, JPR Williams , J J Williams, Phil Bennett, Gerald Davies….

Ah!

Add the Traffic X spotter dude and we can walk amidst legends upon the hallowed turf.

Wooh!

I’ve now got my Wales scenery installed and having oftened fantasised about whether I could turn part of what is left of the family farm into an airstrip… now I can!

So there I am fling west from Gloucester - following the road through Newent and watching May hill grown in my windscreen.

A little further and Penyard and Chase hill herald the approach to Ross on Wye. Hay bluff is clearly visible in the distance, as distinctive a shape within the sim as real life.. an unmissiable landmark.

Banking over Ross - across Wilton Bridge and the still ‘new’ dual carriageway to Monmouth ( built in the 60’s ).

Now using VFR one has the limitation of reduced 3D ground scnery so peripheral vision at low altitude is vital if one is to maintain locational awareness. The cub is perfect for this!

I’ve found our house and the distinctive L-shaped field that I have so oftened landed upon in my dreams. I maintain a reasonable height and enter a left hand pattern above. I drop the door on the cub- it folds flat and I can now look over my knee straight at the field below.

Flying with the cub with the door open in real life is a joy!

I circle and decend maintianing this eye lock on my destination.. at 800 I head north tracking the road which leades north to Morriston before winding across the exquisite tolkeinesque landscape to the country town of Hereford.

I turn 180 and make my approach… pondering on teh fact that the field is not exactly flat… not ecxactly falt at all!

I cross the threshold and land! I fly a bit I land again - and again! A sense of mild panic but at the fourth impact I stay down -on one wheel and alarmingly tilted downhill - but I’m definitely down. Fuel to lean idle cut off and I’ve stopped. The hill actually helps me slow within the limited length available. The negine has stopped the prop is still but what is that noise still? Oh yes - I must stop screaming!

Now I just have to learn how to make ground scenery as I’m definitely going to have to take a roller to those bumps!

Next flight down the Wye valley, over Tintern abbey and then North across the beauty of Wentwood and on to some mountain flying amidst the stunning Black Mountains.

Hmm … perhaps a little Dambusting in the Elan Valley?
